Best whiskeys (and whiskies) to buy for Christmas

Christmas is coming and what better way to celebrate than a few warming drams of whiskey with your family and friends after Christmas dinner? A nice bottle always makes a perfect present too. We decided to help you out with a few festive suggestions. So… Here we go:

Highland Park 12yo

Citrus, sweet honey and a subtle hint of smoke make this a much more interesting and complex whisky that the price level would suggest. Highly recommended. You can pick it up in pretty much any supermarket and, if it’s on offer, don’t hesitate. They occasionally have crazy prices on this and we check every time we step in a supermarket!!

Price: Approx. £25

Glenfarclas 105

This cask strength offering from Glenfarclas absolutely bursts with sherry and nut flavours. Those not accustomed to cask strength whiskies might want to add a splash of water but we’d urge you to try it neat first – it’s stunningly good. This one is a bit harder to find but you do occasionally see it on the supermarket shelves. If not, visit Master Of Malt!!

Price: Approx. £45

Glenfiddich 15yo Distillery Edition

Bottled at 51%, this is not to be confused with the Glenfiddich 15yo Solera, which is also good but nowhere near the Distillery Edition. Full of dark fruit and sherry flavours and with a long finish that will leave you wanting more. And more. And more. Genuinely delicious stuff and an absolute steal.

Price: Approx. £45

FEW Bourbon

One of our favourite bourbons. Super spicy (especially for a bourbon) and with a real kick. Christmassy flavours, with clove, cinnamon and vanilla shining through. All tied together with sweet, moreish toffee notes.

Price: Approx. £50

Nikka From The Barrel

A potent, full flavoured blended whisky from Japan. They’ve done a truly awesome job with this one and you often see it on the shelves at Waitrose. Winter spice flavours, a satisfying burn and loads of complexity. Delicious stuff.

Price: Approx. £35

Amrut Fusion

One of our favourite whiskies ever. It’s not subtle but it IS very clever. Absolutely bursting with flavour. Gentle peat flavours give way to coffee, chocolate and dark fruits, with a long, sweet finish. Absolutely stunning.

Price: Approx. £50
